We believe education is key to the prevention and treatment of
Osteoporosis.
Our hope is that patients will find it easier to cope if they
understand
the
disease.
Our focused educational format includes an education center
located
in
our
office for patients to use at any time. We have a Certified
Densitometry
Technician, Tammy Braman, CDT. Available
are
pamphlets, handouts, books, and videos. This array of material
discusses
the
disease process of osteoporosis along with nutrition,
medications,
exercise,
and safety.
We have an on-site osteoporosis educator Barb Vander Jagt, BA,
CNHA
who
is
available to do individual counseling with attention to each
patient's
needs.
We also offer group counseling on a monthly basis and a support
group
that
meets quarterly, emphasizing the disease process and the many
components
related to prevention and treatment.
As advocates for osteoporosis awareness our department is
committed
to
community outreach. Our education offers implementation of
osteoporosis
screening and development of opportunities to increase the
public's
knowledge
of this "silent" disease.
The field of osteoporosis is quickly evolving and with baby
boomers
on
their
way we would like to be a resource center of knowledge that can
be
of
benefit
to the physicians and patients of the greater Lansing area.
Please
do
not
hesitate to call upon our services to provide up-to-date
information.
